Hearing about Hearing Aids
A hearing aid is designed to bring more sound energy to the recipient. In effect, the sound that the recipient hears is clearer and more understandable for him. A mechanical hearing aid such as the ear trumpet, acts as a funnel that localizes and directs sound to the ear. For a very long time now, the mechanical hearing aid has been popularly used by the hearing disabled because it has been around for a very long time now. But with the breakthrough of technology, electrical and digital hearing aids came to light.
Electrical hearing aids convert sound energy to electrical energy and add to it the added energy extracted from batteries or other portable electricity source. The converted electrical energy is transformed back to sound and is transmitted to the ear. Electrical hearing aids are known to work better than mechanical ones since the sound is amplified to make it reach the target destination even if the sound from the source is not very loud.
Meanwhile, digital hearing aids are the more advanced type of hearing aid made available just recently. This type of hearing aid allows the transformation of raw sound into digital signals to make the sound more distinct and apparent. With the digital technology in hearing aids, sound is filtered in such a way that it becomes more realistic to the listener’s ears. The filtering process occurs in the conversion of mechanical sound to digital sound eliminating unnecessary noises thus making the sound more acceptable and likable to the listener.
